A source-first framework for comparing surgical AF training, host participation, curriculum, funding and application evidence.
Separate surgical AF training from general arrhythmia exposure
Look for an explicit curriculum covering surgical ablation, lesion sets, energy sources, concomitant and stand-alone approaches, left atrial appendage management and postoperative rhythm assessment. A broad adult-cardiac or electrophysiology label does not prove this surgical scope.
Confirm the participation level at the selected host
Credentialing may permit scrub-in at some centres, while another host may remain observation-only. Ask the programme to document the role that applies to your qualifications, licence, immigration status and chosen institution.
Match the host and duration to a defined learning plan
For a short travelling fellowship, state which procedures, decisions and multidisciplinary relationships you need to observe or practise. Connect each objective to prior experience and to how the learning will be used at your home institution.
Reconcile deadline and funding details before submission
Read the application portal as well as the public programme page. When published dates conflict, preserve both dates and confirm the actual closing time. Distinguish the educational award from salary and calculate any travel, accommodation, visa or registration costs beyond the stated cap.
Prepare case-specific application evidence
Use an accurate CV, a focused support letter and a concise narrative. Report atrial fibrillation cases observed or performed using truthful participation categories, without implying autonomy that your logbook cannot support.
